Introduction

I am creating this Blog as a forum for my Electric Motorcycle project. This has been an idea in my mind for some time now and am finally starting down this road. It is my hope that through this blog I will not only stay on task but be able to gain insight from others with this knowledge base.
I presently am planning on using a 48v system and a brushless DC motor. My hope is too achieve a speed over 80 KM/H with a range of over 25 km. My plan is to move as many lights as possible to LED's to conserve on energy. I plan on having an on board charger which will operate on 110v so I may be able to charge it anywhere. Arrangements have been made for a Kawasaki 750. This bike has no gas tank or engine and is being offered at no cost.

awesome idea!
i will be watchin your blog, since i myself am interested in converting a 150cc scooter to electric. however i would like to get the speed up to 100km/h and a range of at least 30 km.
how did u calculate what kind and how many batteries you need?
i am doing a bit of research over the next two weeks for my studies, so i hope to get some more insight into electronics...

Sorry been rather busy to reply. However I have a friend who is an engineer who is helping me. The main concern with the batteries is the voltage i end up settling on. I was hoping to get over 100 km an hour but the i would need to run 72 volts in order to have a vehicle that accelerates at all with the top speed. Electric motors create the most amount of torque at zero rpm so you can run a higher gear but only to a point. after i have the engine out i am going to see how much space i have and how many batteries I can run. At present i am just planning on running 12 volt batteries in series, i thought of running smaller lithium Ion batteries in much larger quantities since i could fill in the small spaces however the cost was an issue and also the amount of weight from the increased coverings on each battery. good luck on your scooter
